Car Rental Insurance
Perhaps the least understood component of renting a car in Europe is insurance. It causes the most uncertainty at the rental car counter and, if the wrong decision is made, can result in hundreds or even thousands of dollars in charges which could have been avoided with better knowledge of the process. Third party liability is provided by the rental company, but the renter is responsible for the car itself—and therein lies the heart of the issue. Since insurance coverage presents the greatest risk for substantial financial loss, it is the most important element of the rental process to understand. Your goal is to make sure your rental car is as fully covered as possible for damage and theft at the lowest cost—possibly zero.
